Journeys to Success: Equity and Access for All Students
Boston, MA – April 5-7, 2017
Underrepresented students often navigate an educational path filled with opportunities and challenges, transitions and choices. From pre-K through middle school, to high school, college, and beyond, their journeys are not the same; instead, their varied experiences shed light on the many factors that shape a student’s story, illustrating how success looks different from one student to the next, and providing insights for how we, as professionals, can contribute to the lives and successes of the students with whom we work.
NPEA’s 9th annual conference will focus on the many experiences that merge to create a student’s educational journey and address best practices for meeting the individual and collective needs of underrepresented students and their families. We will explore and share effective strategies around topics including academic preparation for middle- and high-achieving students, social-emotional learning, financial planning and college affordability, family and community engagement, career readiness, and more. Through discussions about current trends, policies, and research in the field, as well as innovative models and approaches, a range of experts will present tools and ideas to help us support and improve positive student outcomes for all students. We will also consider how to ensure organizational sustainability, position ourselves for growth, attract and retain high-quality staff, manage and use data effectively, and form strategic partnerships that will further our mission and goals. Finally, we will reflect on our own journeys as we support underrepresented students through theirs.
