2011 Award for Excellence in Collaboration
2011 Award Recipient:
Middle Grades Partnership
Mission: To help prepare at-risk but academically promising public middle school students for success in Baltimore’s most challenging public high schools, while fostering true collaboration between public and independent school communities.
"Middle Grades Partnership’s theory of change centers around the idea that great and lasting growth for students comes from true, two-way partnerships between institutions—and the best growth comes from the strongest partnerships. NPEA’s recognition of our work affirms the MGP model and inspires us to continue pushing the envelope on behalf of middle school kids in Baltimore, as well as our family of public and private schools. Thank you so much!" - Beth Casey, Executive Director, Middle Grades Partnership
- Students are identified during their 6th grade year and provided with comprehensive, year-round learning opportunities over three summers and two remaining middle school years. This prepares them to excel in advanced high school programs, and to flourish in college and beyond.
- The learning opportunities are achieved through strong partnership-programs that include an independent school or university and a public school. “Each participating independent school has learned that partnering with a public school is truly a joint effort between equals…”. Twenty partnership-program schools are involved in this collaboration, along with the Baltimore City Public School system.
- This organization was founded in 2005 and since that time has directly touched the lives of 1000 young people and indirectly touched the lives of countless other youth.
- This member has also directly helped more than 200 public and independent school teachers and interns become more skilled, confident, and committed to their work through shared professional development.
